We had a wonderfully chilled Sunday afternoon at Sidney & Matilda on Sunday 21st November 2021 with hypnotic folk and exceptional songwriting from some of Sheffield’s finest, featuring Emergence Collective, ROSH and Gannnet.
// EMERGENCE COLLECTIVE //
Emergence Collective is an acoustic improvisatory ensemble based in Sheffield, UK. Drawing on their individual backgrounds in European folk, jazz, early music, and contemporary classical music, Rob Bentall (nyckelharpa), Zeb Budworth (hammer dulcimer), Juliana Day (whistles/recorders), and Tim Knowles (acoustic guitar) build spontaneous minimalist structures that gradually morph through a constantly evolving musical dialogue. The unusual combination of instruments and dynamic musical process generates a hypnotic kaleidoscope of sound that is completely unique to every performance.

// ROSH //
ROSH (aka Roshan Lal) is a fantastically talented folk musician based in Sheffield whose debut release, See Them Rise EP, came out in summer 2020. A suite of songs written over the course of a trip to visit his family in India, See Them Rise is an intimate and warm folk record which is also a compassionate portrait of fragile and fallible humanity. His initial recordings were funded by a grant from the highly competitive PRS Open Fund for Music Creators, and he now has a new full album waiting in the wings for release in 2021.

// GANNNET //
Molly Clark, nicknamed ‘gannet’ due to her tendency to take other people’s food, is a Sheffield-based musician and producer creating self-proclaimed ‘sad boi tunes’ and ‘apocalyptic pop’ music. gannnet skilfully combines acoustic pop sensibilities with innovative explorations into electronic production.
gannnet started out her indie journey aged 16 as a founding member of Lucid with singer, Shannon O’Shea. She has since been involved in many other bands and groups, and currently performs with Before Breakfast. Despite having been writing songs since age 13, she only released her first solo song as gannnet in March 2020 and this will be gannnet’s debut live performance.
