Thursday 7th November 2019 was the night that the heavens opened and Sheffield drowned! But at Cafe Totem, the show went on, and what a show… We were blessed with an Onomatopoeia Records double bill, with great local support from VSTRS-3

Stephen Evens is a songwriter who has a lot of bitterness and resentment and is channeling it into writing songs to avoid its manifestion into a cancer or abnormal growth.
He has spent most of his days touring here and there with minor indie celebrities. He has for now shunned the tourbus lifestyle for a wander through his own songbook for a change. Armed with a battered guitar, a casiotone and a few pedals Stephen presents songs that mix the likes of Yo La Tengo & Ivor Cutler with broken friendships and human error.

The alt rock trio, Jen Macro, Jon Clayton and Simon Kobayashi, navigate soundscapes from the atmospheric to the psychedelic with their skillfully crafted noise pop. Their debut album ‘Future From Here’ is out on 18th October 2019 on Onomatopoeia Records.
Influences include The Breeders, Elliott Smith, and Sonic Youth to name a few, as well as reflecting the dreamy, hazy atmospheres of My Bloody Valentine, whose live band Macro has been a member for a number of years. Between them, Jen, Jon and Simon have also worked with the likes of Graham Coxon, Shonen Knife, Jim Bob (Carter USM), The Monochrome Set, Chris T-T, Kath
Bloom and Jon Fine (Bitch Magnet).

The drive behind a songwriting talent locked behind closed doors for many a year, brought out into daylight by two friends who happened across singer Joseph in a one man show.
Translating tunes from demos into a 3 man live show built an incredibly big, spacious and powerful sound drawing out cutting riffs and grinding sampled grooves mixed deftly into melodic vocals and captivating tales of isolation, tempered with primal cries.
